Carbon Emissions Report

Date: 1st Nov 2022

Kortical is a Carbon Neutral organisation!

Kortical is an energy efficient organisation and for those elements that we cannot control, like our serviced offices energy supplier or on the rare occasion where we need to fly to move our business forward we offset those emissions investing 2 times what is required to offset those carbon emissions to be a Carbon Neutral company.

Financial Year End Oct 2022 Carbon Emissions Report

Scope 1 Zero - we do not own any buildings, plants or vehicles
Scope 2 Zero - we lease our offices, that include energy which is covered in Scope 3
Scope 3 We use carbon neutral suppliers where possible - Google Cloud for compute, Hubspot, Xero, Github

For where we can’t find carbon neutral substitutes we have the following:

  • Buildings leased
  • Software that is not carbon neutral
  • Equipment Purchased
  • Flights
  • Employee Commute
  • Taxis
Total Carbon 11.053 tCO2e - offset this carbon to become Carbon Neutral
Vs 24.8 tCO2e (Oct ‘21) = 55% reduction in Carbon emissions

According to Carbon Footprint we are 64% lower energy users per employee for similar software organisations but as always we will look to optimise this further.

And we are 55% less than 2021’s Carbon Emissions so we are headed in the right direction.

Carbon Offsetting

To offset the carbon that we cannot avoid using, we are funding, via Ecologi, for every 1 tCO2e, three trees are planted in the UK, 20 additional trees are planted globally and an additional 1 tCO2e is offset through various evidence tracked carbon reduction projects, which Ecologi publish here to guarantee the emission reductions. Projects include wind farms in Thailand and planting in Madagascar as well as tree planting in the UK.

Last year we offset 30.192 tCO2e which was 30% more than required to be sure that we are capturing all carbon and this year we will offset 200% more than is required as we will continue the same level of investment into the environment.

Total Carbon Reduced

Carbon Reduction Plan

We have seen a reduction in our carbon usage by 55% vs 2021. We will continue to monitor where the carbon in our supply chain is and where there are Carbon Zero alternatives, we will endeavour to switch to them, with a goal of being Carbon Net Zero by 2030.
