Carbon Emissions Report

Date: 1st Nov 2021

Kortical is a Carbon Neutral organisation!

Kortical is an energy efficient organisation and for those elements that we cannot control, like our serviced offices energy supplier or on the rare occasion where we need to fly to move our business forward we offset those emissions to ensure that we are carbon neutral.

Current Carbon Emissions Report

Scope 1 Zero
Scope 2 Office Energy = 23.4 (although this is purchased via serviced offices)
Scope 3 Our biggest carbon emitter is Compute and our supplier is Google Cloud and they are Carbon Neutral.
Employee Commute = 0.3
Flights = 1.1
Total Carbon 24.8 tCO2e - offset this via Carbon Footprint

According to Carbon Footprint we are relatively low energy users per employee for similar software organisations but as always we will look to optimise this further.

Carbon Offsetting

To offset the carbon that we cannot avoid we are funding, via Ecologi, for each tCO2e, three trees are planted in the UK, 20 additional trees are planted globally and an additional tCO2e is offset through various evidence tracked carbon reduction projects, which Ecologi publish here to guarantee the emission reductions. Projects include solar farms in Tamil and preserving the Amazonian rainforest in Brazil.

This offsetting is 3 times more than is recommended to ensure that Kortical is Carbon Neutral.

Carbon Reduction Plan

This is the first report. We will continue to monitor where the carbon in our supply chain is and where there are Carbon Zero alternatives, we will endeavour to switch to them, with a goal of being Carbon Net Zero by 2050.
